New Trail System Is Open

Perry County hosted a grand opening of the new trail system Tuesday night. This project is two and a half years in the making. A couple years ago, Perry county received a $100,000 recreational trail grant to create the trails.Ben Braman with Pathfinders is the mind behind the trail system.”We have some pretty steep terrain here in Appalachia, and it became quite an art to lay them out in a way they would become sustainable and be here for generations and generations to come,” said Braman. He has not done it alone, many hours were put in by the community.”Well over 3,000 volunteer hours and we’re still about 25 percent to completion,” said Braman.More than 90 percent of those hours were completed by local kids.
